Good conversations are usually paired with really good tasting beer. I have to say I was pretty interested tonight when I walked into my local watering hole and found out that they had flights. A flight is when a bar or restaurant serves you several samples of beer they have on tap. Almost like a cheaper version of wine tasting, but with some yummy, delicious brews. So I had myself a flight tonight and I am certainly glad I did because I was introduced to some great new tastes as well as some I became rather nostalgic about.
Beers are described from left to right:
1. Turbodog by Abita® is a dark brown ale brewed with pale, caramel, and chocolate malts and Willamette hops. This combination gives Turbodog® its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate, toffee-like flavor. Turbodog® began as a specialty ale, but has gained a huge, loyal following and has become one of our flagship brews.
I am not usually a huge fan of dark beers but this one went down easy and the caramel gives it just a tint of sweetness that makes it very enjoyable.
2. The people of Tampa Bay have fallen prey to Pirate invasion every year for well over 100 years. After more than a century of failing to repel these seafaring raiders in their anachronistic wooden ships, despite access to modern sea, land and air arsenals that ostensibly should make short work of wind powered vessels equipped with naught but cast iron cannons and raging scurvy, it occurred to the folks of Cigar City Brewing that if you can’t beat them start saying Arrrr Matey! And so we have brewed Invasion Pale Ale, a citrusy and tropical session beer brewed for those long days of marauding, pillaging and pirating. Cheers!
3.An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue & ask more than it answers. Brewed clandestinely & given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9®? Why indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, refreshing, not quite pale ale, #9 is really impossible to describe because there;s never been anything else quite like it.
I used to drink this beer when I was in highschool growing up in Rhode Island. After I graduated, I moved down to Florida and it hadn't made it's way don't here just yet. I am happy to say that it finally has and it is ON TAP! It is a great change of pace and it is so yummy!
4.Wild Blue is a blueberry lager that fuses the juice of nature’s perfect fruit – blueberries – with premium American and German hops, two row and six-row barley malt and cereal grains. Wild Blue has a full taste with a pleasant blueberry aroma and flavor, and contains 8 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).
Well there you have it folks! I have to say that I had a fun night and it was great trying all these beers. I am happy I was able to share them with you! Please drink responsibly!
