Vegetarian Caldo Verde Recipe (Kale Soup)

Recipe from FOOD52

Serves 6
Olive oil
1 large onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
3 Extra large Yukon gold potatoes, or 5 smaller ones, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
5 1/2 or morecups flavorful broth or water (add a bit more if you like a brothier soup)
2 bay leaves
1 bunch collard greens, stem removed and leaves cut into thin ribbons
4 - 5 small tomatoes, cut into quarters
Salt

Warm a tablespoon or two of oil in a large soup pot. Add onion and cook until soft, then add garlic and cook for one minute. Do not let the garlic brown.

Add potatoes and broth/water, along with the bay leaves. Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer. Cover the pot and cook until potatoes are very tender, about 20 or so minutes.

Remove bay leaves and discard. Ladle 2 or 3 cups of potato cubes from the pot, into a heat-proof bowl.

Blend the soup remaining in the pot with an immersion blender until the broth is smooth and creamy with rough chunks of potato here and there. You can use a food processor instead of the immersion blender, but do not over process.

Add potato cubes back into the pot. Bring soup back to a gentle simmer and add the greens and tomatoes, plus 1/2 teaspoon salt or more (depending on whether you are using water, or the saltiness of your broth).

Taste the soup to decide how much salt to add. Cook until greens are wilted and tomatoes are barely soft, about 2 - 4 minutes.

Tea Time!

Its my last day of rest before I go back to work. I really don't feel well still and have a hard time drinking cold fluids which I am supposed to be getting a lot of. I asked my boyfriend Chris to make a run to the pharmacy for more tea because I drank it all!

He came home with three boxes:
Sleepytime
Fruit Tea Sampler
Chamomile

The Sleepytime Tea is great for unwinding after work. I hate the feeling of exhaustion but not being tired. I hope that the Sleepytime Tea will remedy that feeling.

The Fruit Tea Sampler is pretty neat, full of types of tea. So far I tried the Peach and the Black Cherry!

I got a cute little surprise when I opened up the Camomile Tea Box!

The box cam with a cute little Tea Tin so I can carry Tea with me on the go!

What kinds of tea flavors and brands do you like?

Fruit Water

Fruit water is delicious, healthy and very easy to make.
What you'll need:
A pitcher of water- I filter my water with a Britta system and pour it into another pitcher for storage.
Fruit- I chose an orange a lemon and a lime. Any fruit can be used as well as herbs like rosemary, basil and mint. Cucumbers can be used as well as an appetite suppressant.
How to:
Slice your fruit thinly. Place fruit in water. You may or may not want to stir or muddle the fruit. The more the fruit is muddled the more fruit flavor will be released.
Let fruit sit before drinking for a minimum of 2 hours. I let my pitcher sit in the fridge over night and drink it the next day.
Personally I would discard fruit water after a maximum of 48 hours. Do not reuse fruit.
Enjoy!

Empties! Product Review: Dove Go Fresh Blue Fig & Orange Blossom Scent

Pros:  I am a big fan of the Dove Body Wash line. Heck, I am a huge fan of body wash in general, Dove body wash just so happens to be one of my favorites. I make it a point to try all the different scents for each product line they develop. I have probably been doing this since my early twenties and Dove has yet to disappoint. As for the pros, let's just put it this way, I didn't want this bottle to ever run out! It smells great. Not too fruity, not too perfumey and just the right amount of cleanliness smell. It's a very dreamy scent.

Lather: When it comes to body wash lather is very important to me. For some reason my brain does no associate cleanliness without seeing bubbles first. Dove go fresh lathers great. It leaves your skin feeling so silky smooth you don't need to moisturize if you had a hard day and just don't feel like it. Dove Go Fresh Blue Fig & Orange Blossom also makes a great shaving cream (which I never use) substitute.

Cons: The price. 24 FL OZ for 5 and change. Not too bad, but if you love Body Wash as much as I do, and use a LOT of it in the shower... also like me ^_^ you could easily go bankrupt buying this stuff! I am pretty liberal with my body wash, like I said, I like the bubbles! But if you are naturally conservative with your body wash and use a normal amount the price should not be an issue, as it is pretty average for this type of product.

Would I buy it again? Absolutely. I have been a very loyal Dove customer for a very long time. Especially since they came out with their positive body image ads and commercials. I think Dove is a great brand and I will certainly continue purchasing and using their beauty products.

17 Pretty Colored Hair Photos!

GoogleBecause of work I am not really able to color my hair or do anything with it that I would like. I have to look professional and unfortunately crazy colors are not a part of that. Although I wish it were! So instead I have to live vicariously through others that have amazing colors in their hair that I wish I could do myself! If I want to make rent I really can't just quit my job and say to hell with it and color my hair. Since I am a "responsible adult". My hair is also very dark and hard to dye anyway, so I guess it works out for the better because I think if I tried some of these hair colors I wouldn't have any hair left, it would all fall out or break off. Here are some images of some gorgeous colored hair!

Beauty Grab Update: L'oreal Vs. Revlon Hair Color and More!

You might have read my last Beauty Grab post where I purchased new hair color and tweezers. After the dye was applied and my brows plucked I am ready to share my progress and review my purchases! I was previously torn on whether to use the Revlon color first and cover it up with my trusted Feria color if I did not like the end product or to dye a lower underneath layer of my hair with Revlon 107 Violet Black and the rest with the L'oreal Bright Black. Well, I chose the latter and tested both products at the same time.

Although L'oreal's products are more expensive than Revlons it is apparent to me that you get what you pay for. In my last post I mentioned that I had used this product before, what I forgot to mention was how shiny and thick feeling it leaves my hair. I will definitely continue to use this product and this specific color. I am in love with how shiny and thick feeling this hair color leaves my hair. It really is a vibrant and beautiful color. You can see my hair in these pictures treated with L'oreal Paris Feria Bright Black 21.

Revlon on the other hand gets a big FAT THUMBS DOWN from me! Revlon 107 Violet Black left my hair frizzy and dull.
Not only was the texture of my hair changed for the worse but the color was not accurate. It is a more red/brown then a violet black leaving me thoroughly disappointed! I should have known better because I have used their products before as well and they always wash out quickly and I am back to a rendition of my base color before I know it.

You can see here the portion of my hair dyed with Revlon color has a very matte grey appearance. Therefore I will not be purchasing Revlon hair color again and will probably keep this experience in mind when purchasing other Revlon products in the future.

On to my Busy Brows! Check these babies out! I mentioned in my last Beauty Grab post that I like to grow my brows in every now and then in order to reshape them. Here are the before and after pictures!

Before:

After:

I purchased some Trim Tweezers and went to town. I really like the purple grip and the slant edge gives me the mobility to get the hairs in the hard to reach places of my arches. I think I did a pretty awesome job with them! These tweezers also get a big thumbs up from me! As does the bow I got to match my work uniform. So I guess 3 out of 4 products working out will have to be good enough!

I hope you liked this Beauty Grab review as much as I enjoyed testing and reviewing these products! I will be doing more posts like this in the future!
