Featured Artist: A List Designs

What you like to go by: Brenda & Alea

When did you start your shop? We officially launched our shop in the summer of 2010.

Is this your only job?
No, Brenda works for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and I am an independent contractor working promotional events.

When did you realize you had this talent?
In 2004, I got into beading and started making sterling silver or 14k gold fill earrings and necklaces with semi-precious stones.  In 2007, Brenda showed an interest in making jewelry, too, so I taught her the basics of beading.  She caught on quickly and has even taught me a thing or two since then!  In 2009, I enrolled in classes with a professional metalsmith and have been learning how to work in silver ever since.

Where do you find your inspiration?
I tend to find inspiration in a lot of random places: nature, architecture, etc.  Brenda literally dreams up a lot of her designs!

Who has been the most supportive of your work?
Our friends, family and coworkers have been very supportive and encouraging.  Some have even made a few purchases!

What is one thing you would like to accomplish that you haven't yet?
As Etsy shop owners, we hope to dramatically improve our sales over the next year.  It's actually one of our New Years Resolutions!

What are your words to live by or favorite quote?
Follow your dreams.

'Tis the Season

I guess I was busier than expected during the holidays. I thought I would be able to keep up with everything but I've been slacking. So the last week or so I have been getting on myself to get my act together and get back to work. It was a nice little vacation while it lasted, but I feel a responsibility to keep this website going and keep my stored updated with new products. Mostly because it's something I very much enjoy doing as a hobby and partly because it has turned into an investment that I don't want to see go to waste.
So I put in a jewelry order yesterday and went to pick it up today. I have about 60 new and gorgeous rings that are about to go up in the shop over the next couple of days. I also made two new necklaces one of which I was told looks like Betsey Johnson. I had never heard of this brand and was not familiar with it, that is how out of the loop I am. How much I don't pay attention to pop culture and the like. I prefer it this way. I prefer to make jewelry out of my own creativeness, instead of copy catting what is in, what's in magazines or what celebrities are wearing like so many other shops on etsy. When you wear one of my items you are wearing a piece of me, a piece of my imagination. Isn't that what art is supposed to be about? Conveying an idea that is bottled up inside your body in order to share it with others in a material form?
That has always been my interpretation of it...

Thanks for taking the time to read this update. I should have some new items and new featured artist articles for you soon.
